WHO WE ARE
Young Soldiers Success Group Inc. (YSSG) is a transformative Afro-Latino led nonprofit based in Salem, Massachusetts, committed to building a future where young men of color thrive not just survive.
Our mission is simple yet urgent: to pour time, resources, and mentorship into the lives of under-resourced male teens of color particularly those navigating life without consistent guidance or support. We are rooted in community, driven by culture, and powered by purpose.
At the heart of YSSG is a bold vision to shape confident, self-sufficient, and culturally grounded young leaders who are ready to rise as change makers in their communities and beyond. Through our values-driven approach, we cultivate not just academic or career success, but holistic growth mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In recent years, YSSG has taken a proactive stance in response to the shifting demographics within Salem Public Schools, where over 57% of students now identify as non-white. This rising diversity calls for culturally relevant leadership and mentorship from people who understand the lived experiences of these young men because they’ve walked in their shoes.
We believe representation matters and our team of mentors, most of whom grew up in Salem, reflects the very youth we serve. That connection creates trust, and that trust opens doors to transformation.
Our impact has resonated beyond the classroom. In collaboration with educators, families, city officials, and local residents, we’ve identified an undeniable truth: our community needs a program like YSSG and our young men deserve it. Where Young Men Become Leaders.

At Young Soldiers Success Group (YSSG), we empower under-resourced young men of color to rise with purpose, strength, and self-belief. Through transformational mentorship, dynamic enrichment experiences, and disciplined fitness training, we help them develop a growth mindset that fuels success in school, in life, and in the world.
